Yukon Cabin Cookout and Paddle > Detailed Itinerary

The life-style of the Yukon is unique. Individuality is appreciated and self-sufficiency is highly prized. This day-trip takes place at our Cabin Fever Adventures base-camp on the shores of Cabin Lake. The action-packed day gives guests a chance to participate in our wilderness lifestyle. You will be able to canoe around the lake, try fishing for arctic charr, and learn about living in the bush. Included in your day’s activities is a northern feast by the lake.

Yukon Cabin Cookout and Paddle

We will pick you up from a location convenient to you in the Whitehorse area and then head north along the Alaska Highway. As we turn off the highway and begin a 12 km journey into the bush the trails gets wilder and bumpier as we go. The last 7 km is along a rugged road that is our wilderness driveway. At the end of this road is a little slice of heaven we call home. Our property on Cabin Lake is surrounded by wilderness. We have no neighbours and enjoy the privilege of living amongst nature. After a tour around our property, we will take some canoes down to the lake, get a quick lesson on how to steer our boats and then embark on a guided nature interpretation paddle around the lake.

You can learn about the ecology of this lake, and the surrounding habitat, that is home to woodland caribou, moose, beavers, lynx, sheep, otters and many other critters. If time permits and you have the energy, we can embark on a hike up to a lookout that allows us to see Marsh Lake, directly to the north, or if you are brave you can take a dip in the lake. It is cold compared to what many southerners are used to, but warm by Yukon standards.

Cabin Lake is stocked with arctic charr. You will have an opportunity to fish for these gorgeous northern fish. Please be aware, that these are smart fish, in the same family as trout, and that they are not easy prey. The fish-finder will confirm that they are down there, but it can be a real challenge to get them to bite.
