A Past Explorer Reflects


Last summer, my 15-year-old son and I spent three weeks with Cabin Fever Adventures in the Yukon. After being dropped of on Lake Mc Neil by float plane with our guide Eliel, two canoes and full equipment and food for 18 days, we were left alone in the middle of nowhere and could start this unique experience, far from everything previously known to us. We discovered lakes, rivers and whitewater rapids for 10 days and went on a hiking loop in the mountains for another 8 days. The last 4 days, we changed guides and George taught us his art of fishing, told us about his First Nation ancestors' practices and beliefs and let us share his remote, cosy and warm trapper's hut.


During our stay, we discovered what genuine nature is. We realized concretely what immensity may mean. We experienced wilderness, simplicity, humility, solidarity and trust. As a father, these were the ideal conditions to leave an experience and to exchange with my son. This was a unique opportunity to learn about each other. This was the original objective of this adventure and it was achieved 200%: we both came back home bigger, stronger and with eyes wide open, having the perfection of Nature as our background.


Much of it was obtained thanks to the excellent organization by Dustin and the Cabin Fever team, who quickly understood our wish and made sure it would materialise. Our guide Eliel, over the 18 days, did fully play his role. Not only by showing us the direction and preparing us amazing meals - we never ate twice the same for breakfast, lunch or dinner over 18 days- but also by sharing with us his deep contact with Nature and his enthusiasm in life.
