This day-hike is a perfect experience for someone who wants to experience the splendor of the Yukon's high country and enjoys the physical challenge of a day-hike that includes a physically demanding climb of slightly over 1000 m (3280 ft).  This day-trip also has excellent opportunity for wildlife viewing.

Caribou Mountain Alpine Day-Hike

We will pick you up from a convenient location in the Whitehorse area and transport you 50 minutes south of Whitehorse on the Klondike Highway, towards the town of Carcross. Here we will park just off the Klondike Highway and begin our ascent of Caribou Mountain. We will climb along the edge of a sharp ridge, gaining more than 1000m (3280 ft) of elevation in a distance  of 4 km. This hike climbs steadily from the moment we leave the vehicle. At the top we will stop for a long rest, exploration and a wilderness meal. Homemade sandwiches with local Yukon ingredients, fresh fruits, sweet treats and hot drinks await us as we relax and soak in the ambience of Caribou Mountain. With a pair of binoculars you can search the large alpine bowl visible to the north below us for signs of mountain caribou and Dall sheep, which live on the mountain during the summer.  From the summit we have stunning views of the town of Carcross, Bennett Lake, Montana Mountain and the Coastal Mountains to the south. After a satisfying meal we will begin our descent to our vehicle once again. Transportation will be provided back to your accommodation in the Whitehorse area.
