- The Donkek River is a glacial river that fluctuates in its level widely as variations in day-time heat impact the melt rate of the glaciers
- The Donjek has silty water and the rising and lowering water level causes logs to float and then beach daily so there are always floating logs to watch for ( especially when you are stopped)
- This river if highly braided and flows through a huge gavel valley bottom and often selecting a campsite with good clean water ( in-flowing creek) and firewood can be a challenge
- The Donjek after a few day joins the White River and then the White joins the Yukon River before this route ends in Dawson City
