Kluane River Attributes:
- The Kathleen River flows out of the north end of Kluane Lake for only 85 km before this route joins the Donjek River and then flows into the White River and finally the Yukon River before ending in Dawson City
- The Donjek and White Rivers are glacial rivers that fluctuate in their levels widely as variations in day-time heat impact the melt rate of the glaciers
- The Donjek and White portions of this route have silty water and the rising and lowering water level causes logs to float and then beach daily so there are always floating logs to watch for ( especially when you are stopped)
- This Donjek and White River portions of this trip are highly braided and flow through a huge gravel valley bottom and selecting a campsite with good clean water (at an in-flowing creek) and firewood can be a challenge
The Kluane River is an Ideal Choice For:
- Intermediate paddlers looking for a river with a wide variety of terrain ranging from the flat water of Kluane Lake, to the clean and fast flowing Kluane River with its white water which joins the glacial waters of the Donjek and White Rivers before finally finishing the route on the majestic waters of the Yukon River
