Moose Hunt Canoe Trip > Detailed Itinerary

 


This fall canoe trip and moose hunt experience is perfect for the individual who wants to learn more about the northern lifestyle of the Yukon, and enjoys a hands-on, participatory experience filled with opportunity to learn and practice new skills.


Note: All meals included in this itinerary are listed as: ( B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner )


Day 1: Whitehorse Yukon: (L, D)

Cabin Fever Adventures staff will pick you up either from you accommodation in Whitehorse or the airport.   If you wish to fish on the trip, but have not had a chance to purchase a Yukon fishing license, you should do so with your guide.  After a quick tour of town we will drive one hour southeast along the Alaska Highway and then travel another 12 km into the Yukon bush to Cabin Fever Adventures' base-camp on the shores of Cabin Lake. The remainder of the afternoon will be spent with your guide preparing for the moose hunt together, learning about trip planning, menu planning, strategies for the hunt. After the vehicles is packed we will sight in our rifle and enjoy what's left of our fall Yukon day.

 

Day 2-8 Canoe Trip: (B, L, D)

After a delicious breakfast we will depart Cabin Lake and drive southeast on the Alaska Highway to where the road crosses the Teslin River. This is known as Johnson's Crossing. Here we will turn on to the North Canol Road, driving another hour north to hour put-in for the Nisutlin River.  Over the next seven days we will travel southeast through some of the best moose habitat in the Yukon. We have a very good opportunity of being successful on our hunt.

Day 9-10: Processing the Moose Meat: (B, L, D)

After our hunt (hopefully successful) we will return to our base-camp at Cabin Lake and process some of the moose meat into sausages, jerky etc. and relax in the wilderness setting. We may also have time to do some fishing for arctic charr on Cabin Lake.
