Sea-2-Peaks Cycle Tour > Trip Information

Please note that we are a wilderness adventure company supporting cyclists. We do not provide bicycle mechanics. Participants should be familiar with basic maintenance and repairs on their road bike. This trip travels through large sections of wilderness highway. There are no options for stopping at a bicycle repair shop. For that matter, some days you will not pass any commercial businesses. Please make sure your bike is in good working order. In the event of a full mechanical failure of your bike the tour is carrying two generic bikes as back-up bikes.

The Cabin Fever Adventures support vehicle is able to transport a limited number of riders for partial or full distances of a day’s ride if the rider feels unable to complete the distance. Camp is broken between 8:30am and 9:00am daily. The vehicle will depart camp at least one hour after the last rider has left and will travel directly to the next destination. The vehicle will travel the preset route ONCE each day. If riders need something from their personal gear or have reason to quit riding for the day they must flag the support vehicle down when it passes them. Once the support vehicle arrives at camp for the night it will not leave. However, if a rider does not arrive in camp within the designated time frame one of the two Cabin Fever Adventures staff members will drive the support vehicle back to find the rider.

Communication is limited in the north and especially in the mountains. There is no cell-phone service for most of our route. We will provide two radios to be carried in different riding groups to improve communication with the Cabin Fever Adventures support staff. This is not a guaranteed means of communication and is intended to hopefully assist communication in case of emergencies only. If cyclists relay a message of an injured or distressed rider the support vehicle will return for them as soon as the message is received. This is a vacation and sightseeing route. There may be opportunity to relay emergency messages through motorists as a last resort.

Given the remote nature of this route it is necessary to be vigilant with safety precautions. There are sections of highway where an organized response by emergency personal is many hours away. For this reason we ask that riders follow our traveling suggestions.

  • We ask that the minimum number of riders in a group is four people. This accommodates the situation of a support person staying with an injured rider while the remaining two riders go for help. A single rider is never to be left alone.
  • We require all riders to carry bear spray on their bikes and take bear precautions. (There will be a wildlife and bear-aware briefing before the start of the trip).
  •  You are required to carry a water purification system on your bike. You will not be passing stores, towns or other venues to purchase or refill water bottles. There are many clear mountain rivers and lakes through which to refill from however we recommend  a purification system be used first. Aquamira or Pristine are two lightweight examples appropriate for you to carry on your bike.

When booking your trip with us we will also need to know what your choice of additional excursions are in Haines Junction, if any. Given the nature of these excursions it is important to book early and that we book as a group. Therefore Cabin Fever Adventures will book these excursions for you as a reservation, but you will be required to pay the provider of the excursion on the day of your activity. These trips are not guaranteed as the departures are weather dependent. Late bookings may not be able to be accommodated. Please find below the links to the two companies in Haines Junction, Yukon offering these excursions. There are numerous optional excursions and activities to do while in Skagway Alaska. Skagway is much more set up for individuals to book their activities. Therefore we have provided you below with the contact information of a local tour agent that can book whatever excursions you desire. In Skagway you should book and pay for your excursions directly through the tour agent.

Please note this trip crosses the USA/Canada border twice. It is a trip requirement that you come with your passport and necessary documentation. The Cabin Fever Adventures support vehicle can not cross the border with your personal belongings on your behalf. Fortunately both border-crossings happen very early in their respective cycling day. The support vehicle will meet you at the border and you must claim your personal baggage and cross the border with it.  You will make your own personal declarations and then pass your luggage to a Cabin Fever Adventures staff on the other side of the border. Once all the riders have crossed the border the support vehicle will cross,  pick-up all of your personal luggage, and continue to camp. If you cross the border without claiming your personal belongings we will not be able to bring them across the border on your behalf.

Camping Amenities

Once again, this is a wilderness cycling trip. We realize that access to amenities like showers and laundry is almost a necessity for a cyclist. We have done our best to provide accommodations that have such amenities when they are available. We utilize four types of accommodation; hotels, private campgrounds with showers and laundry, government campgrounds with outhouses but no showers, and wilderness campgrounds with no infrastructure. Our support vehicle will carry a washroom tent with a stable sit down latrine and a shower tent with a low-pressure heated water supply for use in the wilderness campgrounds. This is a modest shower but will definitely suffice to get you clean on the three nights that we use it.  Please note the cost of pay-for-service showers in Haines Junction and Carcross will be the responsibility of the cyclist.
