Snafu Lake Paddle Fishing > Wilderness Area
The Snafu Chain of Lakes
The Snafu Lakes are located in the southern Yukon on the Atlin Road,
just north of the British Columbia border. It is a well-loved location
in the Yukon for its flat-water canoeing and excellent fishing. You
will enjoy this chain of small lakes, with their numerous smaller bays,
arms, and adjacent ponds and creeks all connected together in a watery
wilderness chain, a rare feature for the Yukon, which is typically
associated with its larger lakes and flowing rivers. Snafu Lake is the
best flat-water canoe tripping location in the Yukon that is accessible
by road. Its smaller bays and peninsulas and numerous islands make
Snafu the perfect lake for peaceful, lazy exploration. There is always
another corner to paddle around, another place for a moose to be
hiding. It also has the benefit of having no individual bays large
enough to create the troublesome winds and waves associated with the
larger Yukon lakes. This makes it a perfect location for beginners, or
families with children.
