Toboggan and Snowshoe Journey > Detailed Itinerary

This spring snowshoeing expedition is for the real adventurer who wants an experience that is anything but ordinary.  By snowshoe we will travel across the Yukon landscape in much the way that early trappers and First Nations alike would have traveled in the past.  Hauling toboggans as we go, we will bring with us everything that we need in order to be comfortable in the Yukon wilderness.  We camp each night in a heated canvas wall-tent, cooking our meals over a portable wood-burning stove.   We will search the skies at night for the dancing Northern Lights, and listen for the howls of a distant wolf pack. By day we travel on frozen lakes under the typically blue skis of the Yukon spring season and in the evenings we set our fishing lines in search of fresh fish.

Please Note: Often our guests choose to come to the Yukon several days early, or to depart several days after their wilderness vacation.  Therefore we don't include accommodation in Whitehorse in order to provide flexibility for our guests. If you prefer, we can easily arrange your hotel accommodations in Whitehorse and add these details to your itinerary.

Note: All meals included in this itinerary are listed as: ( B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner )

Day 1:
(  L, D )  FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR EXPEDITION

Cabin Fever Adventures staff will pick you up from your hotels starting at 10:00 am.  Any final details will be dealt with and we will depart Whitehorse by 12:00 am. Anyone who wishes to fish during the trip and has not purchased a Yukon fishing license will be given the opportunity to do so at this time. (There will be many opportunities to ice fish during this trip.)

Departing Whitehorse we will head south on the Klondike Highway towards Carcross, a small community nestled in the mountains.  Here, at the winter home of Cabin Fever Adventures, we will have lunch and begin our final preparations for our snowshoeing expedition.  During the afternoon we will go through our clothing systems, learn how to pack our toboggans, go over our final food packing, and then enjoy a walk around the highly scenic community of Carcross.  If we have time, we will go fishing for grayling in the Nares River and have fresh fish for dinner.   Accommodations tonight will be on camping cots in our home.

Day 2: ( B, L, D )  SNAFU LAKE ADVENTURE

Today after an early breakfast, we will depart towards the Snafu Chain of Lakes. Once there,  we will unpack our vehicle, pack our toboggans and depart on our northern adventure.   Today we will learn how to haul our toboggans and work as a team., taking turns breaking trail to conserve energy and learning to recognize preferred snow for travel.   You will learn how to manage your clothing system to stay as dry as possible during the day and how to thrive in a cold weather environment.   By mid afternoon we will stop to set our first bush camp.   We will set a wall-tent, using poles from the bush, install our wall-tent stove, and prepare our sleeping area.   Next we will chop a water/fishing hole through the ice and begin our substantial task for the evening of collecting and chopping firewood.   We will set a fishing line to see if we can catch a pike, and enjoy the fruits of our labour, a warm and comfortable camp and some delicious food.

Day 3 - 6: ( B, L, D ) TRADITIONAL  SNOWSHOE TRAVEL

Over the next four days we will explore the Snafu Chain of Lakes,  travelling by day and camping in our traditional  and comfortable bush camps by night.  We will stay in one of our camps for two nights, giving us a full layover day of rest,  in the middle of our travels.

Day 7: ( B  )

Today is our final day to enjoy the serene beauty of Snafu Lake.  We will enjoy a lazy morning in camp, lingering over our coffee, and enjoying the heat from the stove before it cools for the last time.  We will strap on our snowshoes one last time and trek towards our vehicle, with a full load of memories in tow.   After loading our vehicle, we will stop for lunch ( not included ) on the way back to  Whitehorse and arrive by 4:30 pm.
