Yukon River Tandem Canoe Day-Trip > Detailed Itinerary

This day-trip is a perfect experience for someone who would like a taste of the Yukon's great outdoors. No previous canoeing experience is required.

Guided Yukon River in Tandem Canoes: ( 2 people per canoe)

We will pick you up from a location convenient for you in the Whitehorse area. We will head southeast along the Alaska Highway for 30 minutes, before launching our canoes on the Yukon River. If you wish to fish on this trip, you will need to have purchased a Yukon Fishing License before leaving Whitehorse. Fishing rods can be rented for $5 per person, but please advise us of this in advance Your guide will provide you with lures if your wish, which will be paid for at a cost-recovery basis if they are lost. ($2-6 dollars per lure)
After brief instructions on how to paddle, and ensuring that everyone has a properly fitted personal flotation devices, we will load our canoes and set adrift on the river. As we paddle northwest the Yukon River affords us views of approaching Grey Mountain, which overlooks Whitehorse. Large cliffs of sand and clay line the river as it cuts a swath through the scenic valley. The water is crystal clear and you can mark our swift progress against the bottom of the river. Our large canoe affords ample opportunity to put down your paddle and take pictures. The river will do most of the work. Part way through the paddle we will stop for a rest and a wilderness meal. Homemade sandwiches with local Yukon ingredients, fresh fruits and vegetables and dips, juices, sweet treats and hot drinks await us as we relax and soak in the ambience of the river. After a satisfying lunch we will be back on the River. Soon we will enter Miles Canyon and the walls of rock will close in on us as the river becomes deeper, much narrower, and fast. We will zip through the canyon, and arrive at Schwatka Lake with views of Grey Mountain. After a short paddle across the lake our journey comes to a completion. Transportation will be provided back to your accommodation
in the Whitehorse area.
