Yukon River Self-Guided Voyageur Canoe Trip > Detailed Itinerary
The
28-foot Voyageur canoe, with its large capacity for gear and clients
along with its stability and speed is a perfect craft for families and
people of varying paddling ability. Young children can paddle when they
have the energy, but likewise fall asleep when they are tired. The
larger canoes are all-but-impossible to flip on waters such as those
found on the Yukon River so they are very safe. This trip
requires paddling strength in your canoe party equal to at least
three adults, in order to propel the large canoe, but can accommodate
as many as 6-8 participants
depending on the size of children. Younger children are suitable as
well as the
elderly. The Voyageur canoe gets everyone to camp in style, and the
Yukon
River with its absence of whitewater and large open gravel bars for
camping is the perfect canoe trip for families that want a low-stress
wilderness vacation.
This 8-day or 16-day voyage takes participants on a trip as much through time, as through the wilderness. The Yukon River embodies the history of the Yukon. It has served as the main transportation corridor of the Yukon and Alaska for both First Nations and early gold-seekers and settlers as well. As you travel the Yukon River you will gain an understanding of the Yukon’s rich frontier history from the gold Rush of 1898 through the paddle wheeler era. Many artifacts remain along the riverbanks for canoeist to experience first hand.
Note: All meals included in this itinerary are listed as: ( B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner )
Day 0: WHITEHORSE, YUKON
Hopefully you enjoyed your travels and have arrived safely in Whitehorse, the Yukon’s capital city, nestled among the wilderness.
Please arrive in Whitehorse at the latest the night before your
departure. If you wish to shop for food in Whitehorse, leave yourself
ample time as our stores can be busy during the summer months.
Whitehorse is a splendid
little city and we recommend booking some additional time at either the
beginning or the end of your trip to see Whitehorse. If you wish
to fish on your trip but, have not had a chance to purchase a Yukon fishing license, you should do so before departing. Cabin Fever Adventures staff will let you know where they can be purchased.
Please Note: Often our guests choose to come to the Yukon several days early, or to depart several days after their wilderness vacation. Therefore we don't include accommodation in Whitehorse in order to provide flexibility for our guests. If you prefer, we can easily arrange your hotel accommodations in Whitehorse and add these details to your itinerary.
Day 1:
Cabin Fever Adventures staff will meet you at an agreed upon location starting anytime after 8:00 am. Next we will transport you, the canoe and your camping equipment to your chosen starting location, depending on what self-guided package you have chosen: either Whitehorse ( 10 minutes), Carmacks (2 hours) or Johnson's Crossing ( 1.5 hours) Once at your starting location our driver will help you unload the canoe and your gear and then will return to Whitehorse.
Day 2 - 8 - 16 :
Over the next seven days or fifteen days, depending on your chosen package, you will travel by river to your agreed upon pick up location. Please check out our other Yukon RIver Trips for more information about the things you will see along the route.
Day 8 or 16:
Today you will rendezvous with Cabin Fever Adventures staff at an agreed upon time and location, either Carmacks or Dawson City, and be shuttled back to Whitehorse. Please note that you can arrange to stay in Dawson for an extra few days, if the voyageur canoe is not needed back in Whitehorse quickly. Likewise, you can request additional time in your itinerary if you wish to travel at a slower pace. ( some additional charges may apply) We can also add airfare back to Whitehorse to your package and extra nights accommodation in Dawson City.
